Voting for a Fancy Hamster

Voting just opened up for another round of the Open Squish project at Squishables, and for the next 2 weeks this little guy will be up for tallying. If you could take a moment to vote for Lord Fluffy von Weaselnitz it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Squishy Bits 5

Now for the Tom Cat design.
I'm really sad about it, because I'd love it as a toy, but oh well :/

"A graduate from the school of hard knocks, and raised on claw sandwiches, he is the most hardcore of hardcore kitties."

And rejected Turkey. He has a cute head.

"I hear there's one turkey a year that gets pardoned by the president of the United States... How can I get in on this, is it some sort of lottery? Do we take a number, or is there some sort of golden ticket deal? Come on, man, help a brother out. What if I just say I'm a tofurky? Nobody really eats those, right? Yeah, I think I'm gonna change my name to Tofurkey."

Squishy Bits 4

It's getting towards the end of the month, and Squishables is pushing to finish cutting submissions down to prepare for voting, which should be up fairly soon, so I've got a few more rejections to post.

First up: Clydesdale
"With the lofty dreams of a future pulling wagons of beer this little guy hopes to follow in the family business. Providing humans with intoxication is all part of the long term plans for planetary domination."

Next: Giggly Ghost

"This terribly happy ghost, is less interested in haunting and more interested in saturday morning cartoons, so if you could just change the channel, that pony show should be on right about now...."

Squishy Bits 2

Rejected Goldfish design for the Squishable competition. I pretty much knew this one was going to be nixed, but it made me laugh, so, whatever.

Squishy Bits

So there's a competition over at Squishable for new designs, and I need money, so I made one, but that turned out to be really fun so then I made a whole bunch.

Here's a Killer Whale that was rejected, but I really like, so... Yep. Present!

I'll put another up soon.

Logo and business cards

I did a logo for the law office of Lytle & Barszcz. These are a few of the many logo roughs that were turned down. The gavel was just a doodle, but I zoned out and vectored into an illustration.

They pretty much knew where they wanted to go with it, though, and here's the final product on a card. (The gray is just a place holder for where metallic silver is planned to be printed.)

Companion Cube shoe designs

Companion Cube shoes (inspired by the games Portal, and Portal 2, of course)

I thought I’d make more, but I’ve had these drawn for a while, so I'm just going to post them.

Naptown barBAYq

I recently (last night) completed a logo design for the first annual Naptown barBayq, which is a BBQ event, certified by KCBS, that has been scheduled for May 13-14 2011 in Annapolis, MD. It's being put on by the Parole Rotary Club to raise money for the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Cancer Charity. Around 5,000 people are expected, and tons of vendors have already contacted them.

I'm pretty excited about having done this for them, even if it has never made sense to me why gleeful pigs are always used to promote BBQs... Anyway, here's the (almost) full process:

Thumbnails!
Actually this is post-thumbnail-rejection (and explaining to them that having the sails engulfed in flames does not remind one of delicious BBQ, and charity), pre-desperate-doodling.

They liked this last one, but wanted a Maryland state flag, too, so I sent another sketch.

"tight" sketches

color studies
(I couldn't change much, of course, because of the MD state flag having to be red/gold, pig needing to be pink, and ocean generally being viewed as blue)

screen shot while playing with type...

Final, vectored image!
